MIDIKeys - MIDI Controller 4.0.1

MIDIKeys is a MIDI keyboard controller designed for sending MIDI messages to synthesizer applications and hardware MIDI synthesizers.

MIDIKeys does not generate sound independently. It is intended for playing hardware or software VST-style MIDI synthesizers using MIDI hardware interfaces connected to the iPhone dock connector or virtual MIDI instruments such as IK Multimedia SampleTank® for iOS or ThumbJam running in the background on your iPhone.

You can transpose the entire range up or down (up to a limit of three octaves) by tapping the 8va -/+ buttons on the main screen. Touching the display between the octave shift buttons resets the transpose to C3 (60).

Options for both fixed or variable note MIDI Note On event velocity based on touch position within the key are available in the settings.

During play, you have the option to send real-time volume, expression, modulation, or wind controller MIDI messages by tilting the iPhone/iPod Touch to the right or left.

Adjust the transmit channel using the MIDI Channel slider. You can select any channel from 1-16. Channel 1 is the default choice.

You have the flexibility to choose between "Omni," sending MIDI data to all CoreMIDI apps, or "Virtual Port," sending to a named CoreMIDI virtual output port. If you opt for the "Virtual Port" setting, MIDIKeys will appear as an input option labeled "MIDIKeys" in apps that support virtual ports like Sonosaurus ThumbJam and MIDIBridge. "Omni" mode is preselected by default.

Note-on events can be sent with either fixed or variable velocity depending on where you touch on the key. Set the maximum velocity using the Velocity slider (range 0-127, default value is 100).

Choose between fixed or variable velocity mapped to touch position using the selector. When velocity is touch-mapped, the minimum velocity is approximately 10% of the value set on the Velocity slider and the maximum is 100% of that value. Touching lower or higher on the key results in lower or higher velocity values sent in the MIDI Note On event for the key. The black key's highest velocity starts at the bottom and decreases as you move upwards.

MIDIKeys allows you to send Volume, Expression, Modulation, or Breath Control messages by tilting the device to the right or left.

Select a controller on the Tilt Controller selector. The default setting is no controller messages.

When a controller is activated, tilting your device right or left will send selected controller messages to an external device. Values increase as you tilt farther in either direction.

Adjust tilt sensitivity using the Tilt Sensitivity slider (range 1-4, default value is 1.5).

If you encounter "stuck" notes, tap on the "Shhh" icon on the main screen to send a MIDI "All Notes Off" message and halt sounds.

All settings are automatically saved upon exiting MIDIKeys and will be restored when it is reopened.
